Cerro San Gil
The Gulf of Honduras is a marine and terrestrial site located
in eastern Guatemala, there is Cerro San Gil protected reserve.
This is the last remaining tracts of humid tropical forest,
and it is only true remaining rainforest within the Central
American isthmus. Just to give you an idea, it averages around
255 inches per year.
It is a beautiful spot to see a large assortment of wildlife
and vegetation. It is the best area in the Caribbean for bird
watching; over 250 species have been spotted here. It is also
a refuge to 56 species of mammals including the tapir, manatee
and the jaguar and more than 50 species of reptiles and amphibians.
Cerro San Gil also includes important fresh water springs,
bird sanctuaries and mangroves, it is flooded with a coastal
forest impossible to forget!
